We analyse how policy, regulation, and governance shape environmental outcomes, including how policies are designed, implemented, and coordinated in practice. This includes evaluating policy settings, identifying gaps, and supporting practical responses across Australia, the Indo-Pacific, and beyond.
Working closely with government, industry and NGO partners, we contribute to policy development and decision-making processes, and support responses that are grounded in existing institutional contexts and feasible to implement.
We also examine the human dimensions of these challenges, including how rules, norms, and decision-making processes shape behaviour and equity. This work recognises that environmental outcomes depend on the interaction between people, governance arrangements, and the environment. Our research covers several interconnected areas:
