Technology & Society

At a time of growing challenges, from environmental change and global health crises to food insecurity and widening geopolitical tensions, new classes of advanced technologies – including AI, quantum technologies, and biotechnologies – are rapidly reshaping societies, economies, and institutions. These technologies hold great promise for positive transformation, yet they can also amplify existing risks or introduce entirely new policy challenges.

Through our commitment to innovative research and rigorous policy analysis, we work to support the responsible development, governance, and adoption of emerging technologies. Our aim is to strengthen societal resilience and help navigate the complex intersections of science, technology, and society. In doing so, we strive to contribute to a safer, more sustainable, and socially responsible future.

To this end, we work closely with scientists, government, industry, and civil society organisations to develop policy and regulatory frameworks that inform decisionmaking across key innovation domains.

We create an evidence base to influence policy and practice by combining qualitative, quantitative, and experimental research methodologies. Through partnerships and collaborations with various sectors, including government, industry, not-for-profits, Indigenous-led organisations, international organisations, and end-users, we ensure our research has a real-world impact.
