In collaboration with Ariel Care Pty Ltd (a Brisbane-based company that focuses on the development and commercialization of high and aged care assistive technologies), this project aims to develop a human-centered perspective on privacy concerns of persons with disabilities, in the context of living in NDIS-supported smart homes. While these smart homes use advanced AI and assistive technologies, an important but often neglected issue is the impact on the privacy of people who live and work in these homes. Privacy is central to a positive experience of home and is one of the core issues in cybersecurity, especially when the participant group is vulnerable and may not be able to perceive implications of sensor-based smart homes. This project will take a human-centered approach to 1) develop a strong empirical understanding of existing privacy concerns of the stakeholders; and 2) co-develop technology solutions to support human-centered digital rights and responsibilities in the assisted living context.
