Project title: Tourism Frontliners in the Philippines’ Last Frontier: A Critical Study on the Lived Experience of Informal Workers in Palawan
Supervisors: Professor Greg Marston, Associate Professor Richard Robinson
Kyle's thesis problematises the lived experiences of tourism workers in the informal economies of Palawan, Philippines. Kyle will employ a cross-indigenous approach to ethnography using Filipino practice-based methods guided by the native decolonial epistemology of pakikipagkapwa (shared inner self). This study aims to inform labour policies centred on genuine embeddedness, grassroots agency and solidarity to promote equitable, inclusive, and dignified labour in the Global South's informal tourism sector.
