What happened to the children Australia detained?

Since the introduction of mandatory immigration detention in 1992, Australia has detained thousands of asylum seeker children, both within Australia and offshore, often with bipartisan support. 

In recognition of this reality, an ARC Linkage funded research project, The Forgotten Children, Ten Years On, led by The University of Sydney, with The University of Queensland and the Australian Human Rights Commission has launched a study to better understand the long term-effects of childhood immigration detention.
