Caution urged for charities hopping on the AI bandwagon

UQ Law School’s Dr Kim Weinert and Centre for Policy Future’s Adjunct Associate Professor Brydon Wang examined the adoption and governance of AI by Australian charities, finding the benefits for the sector come with particular risks. Although AI adoption in charities is driven by structural necessity, not technological ambition, algorithmic decision-making could introduce new risks of accountability gaps and discrimination.

Launched today, the White Paper is supported by Forewords by The Honourable Michael Kirby, former Justice of the High Court of Australia and Dr Lorraine Finlay, Human Rights Commissioner, Australian Human Rights Commission who reinforce the importance of remaining human, be attentive to dignity, equality and trustworthiness, and empathetic.
