Making the case for 21st Century thinking in Security and Energy Policy
Our current global politics is currently being dominated and shaped by the political competition between a global cohort that continues to retain its mid 20th Century thinking and behaviours in the third decade of the 21st Century, and those who now carry 21st Century relevant mindsets and values. Those the former cohort supports the conservative nation-first politics of Trump, Putin, Netanyahu and Orban. The latter cohort is the progressive planet-first tertiary educated middle class that will globally number 5 billion in 2030.
Our current security and energy policy arenas are just two examples of where this conflict is currently omnipresent. Global politics is also being shaped by long-term global trends that is uplifting global prosperity, interdependence and integration, and that is building a global village serviced by a global market that is increasingly dominated and shaped by the purchasing and investment decisions of this tertiary educated middle class.
These values shifts are also informing and shaping the emergence in the 21st Century of a new paradigm Peter calls “Planetism”, that involves giving first allegiance to planet over that to nation or tribe (Nationalism and Tribalism). Whether our global futures will be shaped by the of planet-first shaped global integration and collaboration, or by anti-global integration nation-first and tribe-first division, will be largely resolved by the global politics of the remainder of this decade.
This webinar will explore the implications of these global trends and values shifts on global security and energy futures.
