Researcher biography

Dr Brydon Wang is an expert in the trustworthy development and regulation of AI and Construction technology. He advocates for trustworthy decision-making in infrastructure delivery and data governance, with a focus on how technology can help increase climate-resilience in cities. He is dually qualified in law and architecture and advises on large energy infrastructure projects with KPMG. He practised as a construction and technology lawyer with global top-tier law firm Allens and has a previous career in contract administration on award-winning construction projects. He has over 15 years in the construction industry in both client-side (government) and contractor-side roles.

Brydon was recently lead editor of the book, 'Automating Cities: Design, Construction, Operation and Future Impact' (Springer, 2021) and co-edited 'Large Floating Structures', a book exploring how we can embrace floating structures in our cities to respond to the increased incidences of floods and sea-level rises. He's featured on ABC Radio National's 'Future Tense' discussing offshore architecture and marine urban sprawl, and on Seeker's popular documentary, 'How close are we to Living in the Ocean?' Brydon's expertise in technology and cities also extends to data-focused technologies such as digital twins, BIMs, smart construction contracts, blockchain. He taught contract and technology law subjects at QUT (data privacy, regulating the internet, EU AI Act). Brydon received the 2024 Vice Chancellor’s Award for Early Career Teaching and the 2022 UQ Business and Law Faculty Award for Excellence for Citizenship.

His PhD thesis on the 'Role of Trustworthiness in Automated Decision-making Systems and the Law' received the 2022 QUT Faculty of Business and Law Executive Dean's Commendation for Outstanding Doctoral Thesis Award.
