Researcher biography

Dr Christine Ablaza is a Research Fellow in the Centre for Policy Futures, The University of Queensland. Her background lies at the intersection of academic research and policy practice, having previously worked as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at UQ’s School of Social Science and as Manager of the Health, Economics, and Social Policy team at Deloitte Access Economics. She has also consulted with a number of international organisations including The World Bank and the Asian Development Bank.

Christine’s research leverages advanced quantitative methods to investigate various forms of socioeconomic disadvantage, including poverty, homelessness, and informal employment. She is currently undertaking work on labour market issues and the future of work, with a focus on non-standard employment and the gig economy in Australia and Southeast Asia. Her publications have appeared in various highly rated academic journals, including the International Labour Review, the American Journal of Public Health, Housing Studies, and the British Journal of Social Work.
