About This Opportunity 

We currently have an exciting opportunity available for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to join the Centre for Policy Futures. This position will provide research and project management support to the project “Pre-conditions for the Development of Offshore Wind Energy in Australia”, as part of the Centre’s contribution to the Blue Economy Cooperative Research Centre (Blue Economy CRC). The Centre of Policy Futures leads the project’s work package that aims to identify best practices in policy and regulatory processes for offshore wind development that could be applicable to Australia.
 

The Blue Economy CRC is a ten-year research and development program that brings together 44 industry, government, and research partners from ten countries with expertise in aquaculture, marine renewable energy, maritime engineering, environmental assessments and policy and regulation. Through the integration of the knowledge and expertise across these areas, the Blue Economy CRC paves the way for innovative, commercially viable and sustainable offshore developments that will see rapid increases in marine renewable energy output and seafood production. The Centre for Policy Futures contributes to the Blue Economy CRC Sustainable Offshore Developments research theme by examining the policy and regulatory implications of blue economy activities.

Key responsibilities include: 

Research

  • Conduct research in the context of the Centre’s collaboration with the Blue Economy CRC.

  • Work collaboratively with researchers within the Centre, project partners, Blue Economy CRC stakeholders and across the University.

  • Provide project management support as part of the Centre’s contribution to the Blue Economy CRC.

  • Ensure high-quality research outputs in the conduct of projects, including the delivery of research reports, journal articles and other innovative research outputs for external partners, stakeholders and funders.

  • Present research at relevant conferences and other professional and community forums as appropriate (depending on funding availability).

Engagement and Service

  • Foster the Centre’s relations with the Blue Economy CRC, organisational units in the University, industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community

  • Collaborate and engage with cognate groups, universities and institutions to share knowledge and contribute to research.

  • Engage with relevant disciplinary and professional communities.

Citizenship and Service

  • Demonstrate citizenship behaviours that align to the UQ values.

  • Shows leadership of self through collaboration and active participation in priority activities for the unit

  • Provide support to other academic positions and unit operations as needed during other team members absences.

  • Contribute to internal service roles and administrative processes as required, including participation in decision-making and service on relevant committees.

  • Collaborate in service activities external to the immediate organisation unit.

  • Begin to develop external links and partnerships by cultivating relationships with industry, government departments, professional bodies and the wider community.

This is a full-time, fixed-term position until 30 July 2025. At Academic level A. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $75,808 - $100,926, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $88,696 - $118,084 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases – at least once a year.

About You  

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in environmental policy and management or related discipline.

  • Knowledge of legal and policy dimensions of offshore wind in Australia and/or overseas.

  • Experience in using interviews, surveys, workshops, and/or focus groups for research.

  • Ability to engage with a range of stakeholders, including government and industry partners.

  • Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Evidence of publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences.

  • Evidence of contributions towards obtaining external research funding.

  • Some experience in internal service roles and contributions towards external activities.
