Conservation and broader environmental policy-making is often regarded as involving complex and ‘wicked’ problems, with policy-makers facing considerable challenges in finding robust and defendable policy solutions.

Using examples such as ‘biodiversity protection’ and ‘land use and climate’ in Queensland, this seminar will examine policy-making processes (both theories and practices), the use of research and evidence-informed policy, and the importance of placing people and communities as well as nature at the centre of policy and debates. The seminar seeks to highlight how conservation, environmental and social sciences can all work together, and how the opportunities for researchers and policy practitioners can be better appreciated and applied.
