Queensland Future Conversations

Visioning Future Transport Mobility

Wednesday 15th March 2023
Speakers' Hall, Queensland Parliament House, Brisbane.

“Visioning Future Transport Mobility” was the topic of our first Queensland Future Conversations breakfast for 2023, co-hosted with QUT and Griffith University.

Transport infrastructure underpins economic opportunities and community mobility in our cities, towns and regions. The ongoing development of our transport networks is critical to the State’s growth, especially in the leadup to the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. This event addressed important aspects of Queensland transport solutions, such as improving transport networks, making our roads safer, and developing MaaS (Mobilty as a Service), all of which have impacts in South East Queensland and the whole State. The use of technology and innovation including AI and automation, autonomous vehicles, and vehicle fuel transition also formed part of this discussion.

The event was moderated by Paul Turner, Director of Government Relations and Protocol at QUT, and opened with an address from The Honourable Mark Bailey MP, Minister for Transport and Main Roads. From Griffith University, Professor Matthew Burke presented on “Brisbane, FOMO and our Transport Future” whilst Professor Ronald Schroeter (QUT) explored "Queensland's Path to a Transport Innovation Ecosystem.” Dr  Maisie Rahbar from UQ closed the presentations by addressing the "Mobility as a Service: Future of Mobility." The speakers then were then joined by Dr Kelly Bertolaccini (Griffith University), Professor Mark Hickman (UQ), and Professor Sebastien Glaser (QUT) for a panel Q&A discussion.
