Emma Cooney is a Research Assistant at the Centre for Policy Futures, supporting research on regulating the development of quantum technologies for decarbonisation in association with the ARC Centre of Excellence in Quantum Biotechnology (QUBIC).

Emma is Founder of Protocol, an Australian youth-led technology policy lab. Protocol’s mission is to empower university students and young people to help shape the national conversation on technology policy in Australia, through its events, publications and policy research program.

In the final year of a Bachelor of Law and Science (major in physics, minor in applied mathematics), Emma has explored both the governance and technical dimensions of emerging technologies through her studies. This combination has fostered a strong interest in ensuring these technologies are developed and used in ways that advance the public good.
