Getting Research into Policy & Practice Workshop

Good research doesn't automatically shape policy. GRiPP is a free, interactive half-day workshop that helps researchers and professionals understand how policy is made in Australia and how to translate evidence into policy influence. Participants gain practical insights into the policymaking process and strategies for engaging effectively with decision-makers.

Delivered by the Centre for Policy Futures, GRiPP brings together UQ policy experts and practitioners with first-hand experience working between research and government. Through presentations, discussion and a closing panel, participants build a practical understanding of the policy landscape and leave with strategies they can apply to their own work.

• How public policy is made, including key concepts and models of the policy process

• How Australia's system of government works, and the roles of local, state and federal governments

• How to identify the policy actors and stakeholders relevant to your work

• What evidence-based policy means in practice

• How to communicate research in ways that are useful to policymakers

• Practical lessons from researchers and practitioners on what works, and what doesn't, when engaging with government

Who should attend

Academics, higher degree research students and professionals from any discipline who want their research or expertise to inform policy and practice. No prior policy experience is needed.

Research can influence policy, practice and the wider community in many ways. Understanding where decisions are made, who makes them, and how to engage ethically and responsibly gives your work the best chance of making a difference.
